Use this nifty guide to help you create your character! It'll walk you through the different form fields you have to fill out during the process. To create a character, you must first post their profile in the Pending Characters board and wait for it to be approved by a staff member and moved to the Accepted Characters board before beginning roleplay. Be prepared to be sent back to the drawing board a couple times during this process, as staff members are out to make sure that all characters are balanced. They may politely ask you to tweak the stats on your armor, or ask you to specify some things further.
Picture: Sadly, due to copyright laws, all photos used must be owned by you or you must have permission to use them from the original author.
Name: Just pick a name. Try not to pick a name that is already in use unless cleared with a staff member (for example, if that character is retired.)
Sex, Age, and Date of Birth are pretty self-explanatory.
Class: Choose your class. To read more about classes, refer to the Classes guide.
Spec: Choose your specialization. To read more about specs, refer to the Specializations guide.
STR, DEX, END, PER, CHA, and Int: Assuming your character is starting at Level 0, input a 0 for all of these. Now, you have 3 points which you can add to any of these 6 stats. If you want, you could even add them all to one stat. Also note that with a reasonable explanation and staff's approval, you can go negative and add the points you took away to a different stat. (For starters, don't go under -3.) A staff member may even ask you to go negative depending on your character's weaknesses, like if you mentioned they were missing an arm you might be asked to take 2 points off STR. Likewise, if you believe your character has reason to be extra-trained in something, contact AlleyCat. Most requests of this type will be denied, but hey, you can try. AC: To figure out your AC, use the following formula: 10 + armor bonus + DEX stat. Your armor bonus is any bonuses granted by your armor. (For example, a vest that gives you +2 armor.) To learn more about your AC, click here.
HP: All Level 0 characters start with 50 HP. You gain 10 HP with every level. To learn more about your HP, click here.
Main Weapon: Name your main weapon. Nooo, not like "Bertha the Axe." I mean a descriptive name, like "Bejeweled Longsword" or "Hefty Mace."
Weapon Details: This is really important. Describe your weapon in as much detail as you can here so people can get an idea of its size, weight, balance, etc. Especially if it's an unorthodox weapon, make sure everyone knows how it works. Also include its stats, such as its damage stat (the number you add to a basic attack roll,) any modifiers you might have to add, any extra effects it has on the wielder or target, etc.
Secondary Weapon: Refer to "Main Weapon" above. Essentially, this should be a backup weapon. Something they can hold in their off-hand or in their backpack or on their belt, like a dagger, a pack of throwing knives, etc.
Secondary Weapon Details: Refer to "Weapon Details" above.
Armor Details: Similar to the Weapons section we just filled out, name all of your character's armor and give its stats. Note that an item is only considered armor if it is worn on the body and if it provides some sort of advantage or hindrance in battle-- a lightweight cotton shirt which doesn't provide any protection nor disadvantage does not have to be listed here. Likewise, a 3 or 4 pieces of armor is the maximum for Level 0 characters-- as always, though, you can negotiate with the staff if you want an exception to be made.
Item Details: Refer to "Armor Details" above. Note that Items are like armor but they are not worn. An example would be "a colorful feather." Also note that the same guidelines that go for armor do not necessarily go for items: you can list an item here that does not provide any stats, but holds emotional significance for your character.
Appearance: Give a thorough description of their appearance, especially if you haven't included a picture.
Personality: Try to make your character realistic and give them a dynamic personality! No one can be summed up with 2 words, so describe them well! Give them quirks or secret weaknesses-- these make roleplaying fun and interesting, make your character more unique, and also make sure you don't have a Mary Sue or Gary Stu on your hands.
History: This one is kind of lax. If you'd like, you can go on a rampage and describe their entire life up to this point, or you can just hit main highlights, or you can just keep it nice and simple. Whatever you decide, this the information you are required to include in your history: how they found/got into the SHFR, any important events in their background that may influence their stats or their status within the organization.
Notes: You can leave this blank if you wish, but this is the place to add notes to staff, notes to yourself, or whatever else you want, like relationship status, a log of roleplays joined, a log of battles fought... just go for it.
Congratulations! You have now created your character-- hit Submit and you're done!
