Ready to join in the fun? This little guide will help you orient yourself in the world of SHFR!
Step 1. Sign up!
If you haven't done so already, the first, most obvious step, is to create an account! Once you're signed up, you should add an avatar and edit your display name to whatever you wish. You can even add a signature or personal text, but this is less important.
Step 2. Read the rules!
Everyone's favorite step! No really, though, it's for your own good. Reading the rules will ensure that you know what you should and should not do, and will prevent any embarrassing situations or unnecessary warnings. After all, you want to start on the right foot, right? You should read both the Forum Rules and the In-Game Rules.
Step 3. Introduce yourself!
We really want to get to know you! So head on over to the Introductions Board and start a thread. Unsure of what to say? Tell us a bit about yourself. What are you into? How did you find SHFR? What sort of character are you looking forward to playing? Do you like Batman?
Step 4. Create your character!
It's time to create your character! Your character is your embodiment in the world of SHFR. Note that this will be your only character for a long time, so don't be afraid to take a while when creating it to make sure it's exactly what you want. Refer to the useful character creation guide for more info on how to go about this. If you're still confused or need help, don't hesitate to ask a staff member. We'll work with you to get you through the character creation process.
Step 5. Create your User Profile!
Your user profile is like your own personal homepage. It lists your characters and relevant information, and is useful for keeping track of people. For more info on how to set up your user profile, check out the User Profile guide.
Step 6. Complete your training!
Well, not immediately, of course. If you read the rules, you'd know that you have to wait until your character is approved before roleplaying with it at all. Once your character is approved, you'll need to start a thread in the right Training board. Depending on your character's class, you'll go through training with a different staff member and in a different board. For more info on how Training works, check out the handy little guide on Training.
Step 7. Start roleplaying!
Assuming that your character got approved and you've completed your training, you can now dive into the most fun part of the site: the roleplaying! You can either join in an existing thread or start your own. A good way to find threads to join is by browsing the Classifieds.
Step 8. Go from there...
Congratulations! You're now an official member of SHFR! Now that you're all set, you can do other things, such as making friends in The Lounge, playing games at The Arcade, and much more. Have fun!
