By signing up for this forum you are automatically agreeing to abide by these rules for as long as you are active. The repercussions are up to a staff member's discretion and including suspension of privileges, account suspension, or even account banning. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these rules, please contact AlleyCat.
I. General Rules
- Please roleplay in the roleplay boards. OOC comments are fine in between double parentheses (()) but posts in RP boards must contain at least some RP.
- Swearing among characters is allowed as long as it's not a) personally offensive to another member or b) excessive.
- Spamming is not allowed. This is defined as the repeated posting of pointless or excessively short messages, usually to increase post count.
- Please do not double post, with the exception of bumping a thread (when appropriate.) If you have something to add, use the Edit button.
- Threads may only be bumped if at least 24 hours have passed since the last post, and less than 30 days have passed since the last post, or if you are the creator of the thread. Staff can bump threads at any time, as long as they do not abuse this power. If you'd like to have a thread bumped so that you may post in it again, PM a staff member.
- Be respectful of other members. It's the golden rule. If you have a problem with something, PM a staff member and we will sort it out for you. Flame wars are not tolerated.
- Please keep a link to your user profile in your signature at all times. This can be in any form, just make sure you have it there. It's really helpful and convenient for users and staff alike.
- Display names may only be changed once, when you sign up. Excessive changing of display names without staff permission will result in consequences.
II. Roleplaying
- This site is for moderate to heavy roleplay only. While there is no set minimum word count, one-liners are heavily discouraged unless it's a very special case. Think of it this way: no one wants to write a really good 4-paragraph post to be met with a meager sentence. You get back what you put in.
- You must keep with the chronology of the site. This means 2 things. One, you character may not be in multiple threads at once. And two, you cannot advance months at a time. Making a thread that's set a few days after your previous one is fine, but don't go way ahead and say "70 years into the future..."
- God-modding is not tolerated. God-modding is controlling another person's character. This can be especially tricky in battles-- but that's why sparring exists, to help you learn to battle without god-modding.
- Powerplaying is not tolerated. Powerplaying is when your character is invincible. This is really the staff's call.
- All threads are open unless otherwise specified. If you want to control which characters are allowed in your thread, specify this in the first post and title.
III. Characters
- You may only have 1 character. People who have more than one character can only do so because they have either cleared it with AlleyCat or purchased another character slot.
- Characters you create must be within your character allowance. This means don't create more characters than you have slots, or characters with higher powers than you currently have access to.
- Characters must be original. I think this rule is pretty clear.
- Do not roleplay characters who have not yet been approved by a staff member.
- Keep track of your character's stats in his/her bio. If you get called out on something because a staff member spots an incongruency and believes you are cheating, it's your own fault for not keeping your profiles updates.
- If your character is killed, make this very apparent on his/her profile. If this happens, that character slot automatically opens up, but you are not allowed to revive the deceased character in any way.
IV. Character Relationships
- Yes. Romantic relationships between characters are allowed.
- Marriage is also fine, as long as it's consensual between both users.
- Roleplaying romance should be kept at a PG-13 level. Kisses yes, sex no.
- Babies are also allowed, as long as both users agree to it. Just note that you cannot possibly have more than 6 children at a time (and no one should be having that many anyway, unless they intend to rp all of them somehow.) Also, if your character is pregnant, please allow at least a month of real time to go by before she gives birth. There should be some indication that she was pregnant.
- Please note that while all these things are allowed, they have in-game repercussions, so read up on the in-game rules as well!
V. Death
- No one can kill your character but you, including staff. This also goes for other people-- so you may only kill another person's character if they give you express permission.
- If you are looking to kill your character, contact a staff member and we can have that arranged.
- If you simply want to get rid of a character, consider putting it up for adoption instead of killing it.
- Characters will not die of age unless you consent to it, of course, but please be reasonable. Don't have your character be 200 years old.
VI. Growth and Aging
- Each year in-game is equal to about a year in real time, unless otherwise specified due to special circumstances. Despite this, time will not be tracked very precisely-- so it's not necessary to update your character's age unless you feel that it's important or of you just want to.
- Baby or child characters are an exception. If you have a character who is a baby or toddler, they may age up child status after 4 real-time months, if you so desire. Likewise, if you have a child character they may age up to teenage status after 4 real-time months, if you desire. Yes, it breaks a bit of the time continuity, but this is a game created for the sake of having fun, no?
- Young characters (namely children or younger) cannot participate in normal events unless cleared with the staff. For more information on age restrictions, check the in-game rules.
VII. Activity
- There is no required amount of activity, aside from the occasional activity checks. For more information about how activity checks work, check the respective thread.
- If you will be gone for more than 2 weeks at a time, please notify us in the Departure Board, especially if you are a very involved member. Try to include return dates if possible, and please post in the Departure thread when you return. Staff members use this to grant you immunity from missed activity checks and such during your period of absence.
- Accounts deemed inactive by activity checks will be labeled as "retired," and their character profiles moved to the Retired board. There shouldn't be a negative connotation to this; it's just so everyone knows who is active and who is not.
- Accounts can be retired upon request, for example, if you'd like to take a long break or if you're quitting for good. To do this, either PM a staff member or mention it in your Departure thread.
- New accounts who don't create a character for an entire month since their date of registration will also be retired, unless said person lets a staff member know of some outstanding circumstance.
- If your account has been retired due to inactivity and you wish to come back, just PM a staff member and we'll gladly help you get set up again!
These rules are subject to change at any time, at which point an announcement will be made.
